Preston Update

Many of you have been wondering what Preston's status is - and I'm sorry we can't keep up with the phone calls ans emails (although they are much appreciated). So - here you go:

Preston had a rough night last night. After spending all yesterday trying to breastfeed him, and wean him from his oxygen and IV, he was just too tired to keep up. This morning he was moved back to the critical care part of the NICU. They found more fluid in his lungs, so he was put back on antibiotics. He will have daily chest X-rays and be monitored daily for his lung action, temp (he has a fever) and reaction to the antibiotics. Also, his breathing never recovered from the day before, and he was put on his respirator later on that afternoon. Which means we can no longer hold or feed him.

Bottom line - we are back at square one. He will be in the NICU for a minimum of 8 more days. Mom and Dad aren't very happy - but are glad that there he is receiving the attention and care he needs. Below are some pics before his respirator was put back on.

One thing you can do to give you both the feling of holding him is standing at his feet slip both of your hands and arms almost underneaththe sides of his body and stick your face next to his ears and talk and sing. He will be in heaven. Just don't be intimidated by all the IV lines and the vent tubes...and hurting him...he's on some yummy stuff I'm sure.

What a sweet little face. He is absolutely perfect. Hang in there Preston, Mom and Dad. It sounds like you are very on top of things.

Jenn is wise indeed. :)

I'm so sorry that he's not quite done yet with the NICU and hospitals and such. He is such a darling little boy (gigantic, but darling) and it's good to know he's in such good hands. Including yours.

We love you!!

What a blessing that Preston was born in a day when doctors have the knowledge and hospitals have the technology that will help him get on his little feet when he's ready. In the meantime, just keep doing the best you can! You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Melissa

He is even handsomer than the last pictures! Hang in there. Preston is so lucky to have such wonderful parents who are getting him the care he needs.

We love you and are praying for your sweet family.

Thanks for the blog updates, I feel bad being one of those people pestering you you messages and phone calls when you're clearly very busy.

He has definitely gotten far more adorable in the past week. Keep it going guys, you're already awesome parents and he's one lucky kid to have you two (not to mention all your friends and modern technology) pulling for him! : ) I love you guys! (ps, tyler loves you guys too, even if he doesn't really say it in those words :)

Way to go Sarah and Hot Dave! Give Preston a high five and tell him to get better. My brother weighed that much and when he came out the doctor said, "Benjamin is a big, fat boy!"
