zucchini and other pressing items....

Dear UT grocery stores. Why do none of you have zucchini for less than $2.99 a pound. Are you kidding me with this? Zucchini is basically a delicious weed. I guess my yellow curry will have to go without you. Not because I'm that cheap (ok maybe I am), but its more of a principle thing.

Also, in case your wondering, I am blogging about zucchini to avoid my tax doing......and again by "doing" I mean gathering the appropriate documents and sending them to our accountant. Motivation is nowhere to be found.

Also, also - I spiraled into a pit of despair this morning when I realized that today is in fact not March, but tomorrow is March. Definitely ready to leave February behind.

Happy Monday to all and to all a good March (tomorrow, not today, tomorrow....)

lessons learned.

  • D wants me to get SCUBA certified. I've always found this concept terrifying. Here goes.....
  • Ells is my 7:30am wake up call, on the dot, every day. WHY can I not go to bed before midnight?
  • You wish I was your den mother. 70 cupcakes - vanilla buttermilk w/butter cream frosting & devils food cake with cream cheese frosting for the Blue & Gold banquet.
  • A cheat day turned into a cheat week. Freakin' aforementioned cupcakes.
  • If you say stupid/obnoxious things on Facebook, I consider de-friending you every time, and sometimes do. Which is fine because we're not really friends in real life. Seriously people.
  • Parents in town this weekend. Visits are always too short.
  • PG learned a few lessons this week as well..... 1). although convenient, washing your hands in the toilet will end in consequences you never dreamed of. 2). Lettuce, its delicious. 3). Snow is fluffy and pretty, but above all its cold and only enjoyable for approx. 10 minutes.

maturity.

Does anyone else get annoyed/upset at lame/stupid/trivial things? And you know they are lame/stupid/trivial, but that doesn't seem to matter....

Maybe its me. I'll never be a mature grown up. I'm fine with it.

I'm in!

The Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra that is. I auditioned a few weeks ago, and they graciously accepted me (after sitting through what I can only image was 5 minutes of the most awkward, nervous, rusty violin playing). I haven't played for a good 10 years. A decade people.

As we all know, being a mom you can sometimes go through an identity crisis. All of the things you used to define yourself quickly give way to meeting other little people's needs on a 24/7 basis. In short your priorities change. But (at least I feel) there's some part of you that doesn't want to change, and that you really don't want to let go of. Thus, why I still find myself attempting such endeavors. When I heard about auditions, I decided even if I don't get in, at least I tried, and I will get better at trying until another opportunity comes along.....

Our first rehearsal was last week (hence the "I made the news in a good way" bullet on my previous post, in UT such things as new symphonies are apparently news worthy). It was great to be back in the saddle. Eating humble pie? Totally. I'm very out of practice, but it was So. Much. Fun.

To commemorate. Here's everyone's most beloved pic (again) relating to violin playing. Circa 2000 perhaps? It doesn't get any weirder, or awesomer. Thanks Bar.

lessons learned.

  • Lappy is BAAACCCCKKKKK. Missing limb restored.
  • No matter how old you get, do your childhood/adolescent insecurities ever go away?
  • Post apocalyptic flu life is amazing. I still have a smidge of an ear infection, and Ells came down with one a few days ago. But we are 99.9% whole again. HALLELUJAH.
  • New nephew is finally here. So. Very. Excited.
  • I made the 10 o'clock news in a non-going-to-jail, non-lewd, and non-going-postal way. AND I happened to have makeup on. Bonus.
  • I'm really 100% serious that I owe my life to whomever invented Excedrine. Its right up there with whomever invented the epidural, diet coke, and chocolate.
  • Oh, and since we were sick on Valentine's - Happy belated V-day. D had some great v-day surprises for me, and even somehow managed to get me a card that contained the word "smartass-y" (referring to him, not me. But either way is valid). Soulmate indeed.
  • Every year I've done a Valentine's card for the Grandparents and Godparents. This is the best of my 5 seconds of attempts at pics of the kiddos.
  • This is the worst. After about a 30 second "photo shoot", I decided 2011 was the perfect year to break tradition, take some DayQuil and rest on the couch.

lessons learned.

  • What's that you say doc? My ear infection will most likely clear up on its own - give it a week? That's lightening fast. And I can take Tylenol for the pain? Oh good. I'm sure Tylenol is just the thing for something that feels like a drill in my ear. I can manage. I don't have kids, or a spouse or responsibilities or anything.
  • Fact: When you're running a fever, dressed in your jammies and your hair is disgusting, you WILL run into people you know at the store.
  • There really is nothing more pathetic than a delirious, hoarse, congested little Lou at 2 am. Sorry girl. Sometimes life just sucks.
  • When I'm in the waiting room at the doctor's office, and there's no seats available - I will judge you and your parenting abilities when you let your 8 year old sprawl out over 4 chairs.
  • Can you tell I'm extremely pleasant when I'm ill? Its a gift, really.....
  • Taxes. Sooo close. Yet sooo far.
  • Strangers everywhere. You can mistake my daughter for a boy anytime you like. It won't make me put bows the size of Jupiter on her head.
  • Despite my "no soliciting sign" a solicitor knocked on my door. Seeing that I have the sign, I assumed it was someone I knew, and opened the door (mistake #1). They wanted to test our water, so I assumed they were from the city (mistake #2). In short, they have called me no less than 2 daily for the past week. Never leaving a message. I intend to never pick up. The battle of wills has begun.
  • Its Friday. This better be the end to my week of suck. Uh, er, I mean sick. No, I meant suck.
  • On a happier note - since we were homebound again this week, and I didn't want to contaminate (with flu) our annual Valentine's cookies we give out, PG and I "decorated" instead. Nothing defines a man more than his ability to cut out heart shapes. Right?

just when....

.....you think you couldn't be more on the same page with your spouse about each other, your children, and your life together (and more importantly how you're 100% correct in how we should go about all of the above), he sends you this article.

sigh.

Something is apparently not getting though. Retrace. Retrace.....

lessons learned.

  • Sick spouse = 1 extra sick kid to take care of. You know I'm right ladies (I've talked to a bunch of you, so its not just my spouse). Men are babies when they are sick. We love you, its true. But......Get. A. Grip.
  • Also - how many moms get "sick days"? None. Unless you're in the hospital I'd imagine. How did I get that end of the stick?
  • Saw a mom mullet at the gym.
  • I've also spied numerous people exercising in normal clothes (khakis, button up shirts, jeans, non tennis shoes) at said gym. What the?
  • I've also, also spied several people walking at a snails pace reading a book while on a treadmill or elliptical. Calories burned per hour? Maybe 20. I've seen this before, and will never understand.
  • One of the highs this week was 13 degrees. Let us never speak of it again.
  • So banana chocolate chip muffins have flour and sugar in them? Really? Too soon to be cooking those bad boys without wanting one.
  • I have a love/hate relationship with Pandora. I wish there was a "never want to hear this artist ever" button (maybe there is, I'm a newbie). Goo Goo Dolls. Really?
  • I have gone to Target no less than 5 times this week intending to buy a specific item and have forgotten it every time. It could be my brain. It could be Target's magical powers....

awesome parenting. right?

I don't care if you care or not. If you have kids or not. If you will/want to have kids or not. THIS is a big deal. Epic. And when you get there, if ever/whenever it is, you'll whole heartedly agree with me.

THIS guy is potty trained.....

He's been capable for awhile. But true to PG form, he will only do things when he decides "its time" (ie, holding a bottle, walking....). I guess Monday was the day. No bribery or anything needed. I'm conflicted with elation and resentment. The teen years are gonna be a blast.

In other news - this little girl is officially mobile, via "inch worming". Sounds cute, but its a terrifying reality. Guess I'd better start the baby proofing. Esch.
