lessons learned.

  • There was a little girl at the park this week named "Elery". Elery - like Celery but without the C. I wonder if her parents ever described it like that, and then went, "Oh......"
  • We are now in charge of a cub scout group in our ward. Is there anyone or anything that has more energy than a group of 8 year old boys? It makes me tired just thinking about it.
  • Our toddler is now a bratty teenager. Here's a sampling - "Dad, stop whining", "Mom, calm down", "Get out of my way!", "No timeout, mommy timeout". Of course all of these result in immediate timeouts, whilst I try not to laugh.
  • 7 weeks left people. Does anyone else realize I will have 2 kids in 7 weeks? What. Were. We. Thinking? Apparently denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
  • Nana Doughty flies in today - I can't tell you how relieved I am. Maybe I'll get a shower and nap today. Here's hoping.
  • We grew up getting some candy in our Easter baskets, and a little present. Ex. A book, or some accessory to wear with our Easter outfits that Sunday to church. D thinks that's odd. I think its awesome.
  • D also thinks the concept of buying a life size cardboard cut out of someone from something tweeny like Twilight/Hannah Montana/Harry Potter and putting in one of our windows is odd and not at all hilarious. HOW could that not be funny?

twinkies.

Twinkies. I can't stop. Really.....I. can't. stop. I haven't had one in years, and we were gassing up and getting treats over the weekend when we drove to N. Utah. I saw them, grabbed one and that was that.

The description on the box says "Golden Sponge Cake with Creamy Filling" - the perfect combo of white trash and deliciousness.

PS - if you go to the website on the link above you'll find Twinkie recipes. RECIPES people. (Ex. Patriotic Twinkie Pie and TWINKIE KEBOBS) Holy freaking cow. Its so bad is has to be good, right?

I have to ask.

Why?

Saw a lady sporting these bad boys. Her butt did NOT look like the chick in the commercial. Please don't tell me this is the future of fitness.

lessons learned.

  • Never taking the kid to story time again. Wait PG - you don't enjoy a lady that looks like a polygamist playing the guitar? Got it.
  • SPRING has returned - as well as a portion of my sanity. (Although I don't know if the latter will ever be fully restored).
  • My father in law is making is fill out brackets for the NCAA B-Ball Championships . $$ is involved, so of course I'm motivated. Yay Basket Hoops!
  • The death cold is still lingering. 2 weeks......2 weeks.
  • Saw Alice - loved it. And I also super loved that people thought it appropriate to bring their children, when I had the courtesy to NOT.

a recent convo: twilight.

For those of you that don't know, I haven't read or seen Twilight, New Moon etc. Not out of principle, it just doesn't seem that appealing. I'm sure one day I'll change my mind - but then things like this happen that keep my resistance up. (spoiler alert if you know nothing about the Twilight series).

The other night D was watching the Eclipse trailer (why? we may never know - he's in the same boat I am). So I'm watching it with him and ask:

Me: Ok, so you've at least read the synopsis' of the books. The main chick eventually becomes a vampire right?
D: Yeah.
Me: That would be the lamest thing ever if she didn't. Why wouldn't she?
D: Agreed. But not to worry - she does.

I go back to reading, D goes back to watching more trailers. About 5 minutes of silence.

Me: You know, I would totally become a vampire for you.
D: Of course you would.
Me: Wait what? You're supposed to say you'd do the same for me.
D: Well how can I if I'm already a vampire? You'd have to become one for me.
Me: I mean, as in the situation is reversed. Come on!
D: Oh - well then I would.
Me: That's better.

And that ladies and gents is at least 5 minutes wasted on Twilight I will never get back.

lessons learned.

  • There are very few reasons why you should be calling me before 8 am. Here they are. Profuse bleeding, you notice my house is on fire, you want to give me a million dollars, or you are Brad Pitt. Other than that, there will be hell to pay.
  • Do you want some cash? My house is a disaster. I'm willing to employ someone to fix the situation.
  • Sick mom and toddler = the perfect storm of grumpiness (and messiness, see previous bullet).
  • Taxes - DONE. Well, at least submitted to our accountant. Gold star please.
  • Went out to lunch today with a girlfriend. Our waiter was a young male, which I've seen before, but today he was wearing a wig. A hideous, not passing at all for real hair type of wig. And he's not the funny type. So confused, and I feel its somehow unsanitary.

strange little man.

PG has started to develop some strange habits. I could chalk it up to being a toddler, but sometimes I wonder.
  • Pool routine: He used to jump from the side to me, then we'd "swim" back and I'd place him on the side, and he'd jump in again. Now, I hoist him to the side of the pool, he runs to the wall (its an indoor pool), he "scrubs" (best word to describe it) a blue stripe and a green stripe that's painted on the wall with his hands, touches a pipe and spout on said wall, walks back to the edge of the pool, "washes" his hands in the water, and then is ready to jump to me. Jig.....ga.....what.....is.....that?
  • Fake sleeping: All the time! Especially when its time to get out of the car, or if he doesn't want to do something I've asked him to. Most of the time its random. Complete with snoring.
  • Pretending to be stuck, when clearly he isn't: For example, sticking his hand under a pillow and saying "Mom. I'm stuck!"
  • Eating with his eyes shut: Head up, eyes closed, mouth wide open - chomping on food. I usually end up feeding him with a spoon due to lack of patience (we call it the "baby bird").
  • Bobble head: sometimes he shuffles his feet (whilst taking ity-bity steps) and bobbles his head back and forth instead of using a normal mode of transportation - such as walking.
  • Bedtime: Sometimes he goes to bed just fine. Other times I find all of the towels from the linen closet piled around him on his bed. My favorite is finding all of his toy cars lined up in a row at the foot of his bed, and all of his tools arranged like a completed puzzle on his pillow.
Since he knows when we're taping him - its hard to get any of the above on film. Below are 2 very short clips. The best I could do......(and its been months of trying).

Fake Sleeping - there's snoring if you listen closely.

Baby bird - not the best, he opens his eyes. Usually its 5 straight minutes of me feeding him with his eyes shut.

phew!

So the other day we were in the car with D's parents, just chatting about work, the kid etc. - when D decides to announce his life plan.

1. Work hard
2. ?????????
3. Make lots of money.

So glad we figured things out. I guess now all I have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride.

lessons learned.

  • You know Sarah is tired when she says things like, "If I had the chance to shoot Jason Mraz, I totally would....."
  • Two 5 am wake up calls this week. Two people. Two .
  • Saw two BYU-ers (assuming, they were soooo the type), making out on the front steps of the library next to a sleeping homeless man. You really can't get more romantic than that.
  • Whenever I ask my child to do something he fakes being asleep. Lazy, or genius? Perhaps both. I wish I had thought of that.
  • There was a commercial on during the Olympics that, in a nutshell said, "Is there anything better than being an Olympic athlete?"....."Yes"....."Being an Olympic athlete's mom". The dumbest thing I have ever heard.
  • I saw these cake stands at Costco last week. Long story short I didn't get them and planned on buying them on my trip this week only to discover - They. Were. Gone. I didn't know I was so attached to them, I've been mourning my loss for days.......

cadbury minis.

So, let's talk about the miracle candy that is Cadbury Mini Eggs. There's no one word that can really describe them. I didn't even know they existed until college when Zimmerman introduced them to me.

Anyway, last year I procrastinated "helping the Easter Bunny" with the purchasing of Easter candy. To my ultimate dismay, there were no Cadbury Minis to be found in any store....UNTIL my last stop - Smiths. Later that night I started filling eggs and gleefully chomping down on a few Mini Eggs. To my horror, I discovered they were DARK CHOCOLATE. A frightening combo of delicious candy shell and crap-tastic chocolatey insides. Who is responsible? No wonder I found them the day before Easter. So sad - a Mini Egg free Easter for 2009.

This year, I set out early on my egg quest. So far I've hit Albertson's, Target and Wal-Mart. NO MINI EGGS. NOT ONE BAG. What? I'm starting to loose my mind. If I don't find any this year, someone will pay. Hopefully it won't be a big fluffy bunny.....
