escape.

I decided it was time for a getaway minus the child. Last weekend we headed up to Park City for 2 days and stayed at the Westgate Resort. I planned on spending the whole time at the movie theater - seeing every movie possible, but instead we ended up eating junk food and watching HBO. An agreeable, and lazier alternative.

The first night we spent a good amount of time at Bandits. D lucked out b/c they were having an all you can eat BBQ special. I anticipated dinner would end when they threw us out, much like Homer getting kicked out of the Frying Dutchman. But he managed to stop after a respectable amount of red meat was consumed. The main reason for our hotel choice (which was meh - what 4 star hotel doesn't have free internet?) was the Serenity Spa located on the premise, where we spent most of our 2nd day. Whilst I was getting massaged, I was thinking of ways I could somehow work for these people in order to get a discount - yes, its that good. Receptionist maybe? If I became a masseuse and was hired, would it be weird for me to as a co-worker for a massage? I digress.

Other places we hit were Bankock Thai on Main, and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory (RoMoChoFo), and of course - the outlet mall. All in all it was a great time. Thanks to Kathy, Kat and Kristin for watching my abandoned child. He was only mad at us for about 2 hours.....

lessons learned.

  • Naked time out = kid peeing in the corner. (*he was naked on his own accord, it wasn't part of the timeout. HA!)
  • I'm wondering where soy milk has been all my life.
  • Sometimes, a weekend away is harder for the parents than it is for the kid.
  • Saw a dude get arrested at Albies for stealing Ibuprofen. Gigga what?
  • My kid is no angel 100% of the time (maybe 99.9%). But some parents, and their ridiculous children really, really piss me off.
  • Halloween is approaching. Too......many......options........

gorilla man.

So there is a small business I pass daily (its very close to D's work) I think they repair power tools, or something similar. For some reason, they feel the need to perch a life-sized stuffed gorilla wearing a construction hat and neon vest on a folding chair by the side of the road. You might think to yourself - duh its Halloween season. To which I would reply, duh - they've had it there since the beginning of time....they are really into that marketing strategy.

Thing is - every time I pass it I do a double take. EVERY TIME. I can't decide if its due to fear (that is a giant gorilla) or curiosity (is it one of those characters that's supposed to be dancing but they're just taking a break?). EVERY TIME. Its a giant stuffed gorilla dressed as a construction worker. I'm not sure why my subconscious refuses to digest it, but we need to remedy this soon, so I can stop ARRGG-ing myself when I realize that stupid gorilla got me again.

Update since taking this photo. I was driving by, camera phone ready, when the Gorilla MOVED. In fact, it started to swig the Dew seen in the above picture. If you think I shrieked, you'd be correct. What the junk is going on? Apparently its a part time gig......

let's recap our night. shall we?

copy of an email I sent to my mom the other day:
  • 10 pm - PG finally goes to bed
  • Midnight - we go to bed
  • 1:15 am - I can't sleep, so I take a Tylenol PM.
  • 3:15 am - power goes out, I wake up.
  • 3:30 am - Jake texts me to let me know the power is out, and there's a beeping coming from Dave's office in the basement.
  • 3:45 am - after investgating the beeping, we move Jake to the couch upstairs, b/c I have no idea how to stop it.
  • 3:50 am - I return to bed, and hear little footsteps. He's awake.......
  • 4 am - move my bedding into PG's room and try to get some sleep.
  • 4:15 am - D wakes up, I go in to tell him about the power outage, then go back to a still awake PG's room.
  • 4:30 am - power is back on.
  • 4:40 am - I hear D in our room slamming drawers, apparently he's not feeling well. I go back to the PG's room.
  • 4:43 am - PG wants "cheese", I go get said cheese.
  • 4:47 am - check on D - he's puking.
  • 4:49 am - bring D some water and Ginger Ale. Go back to PG's room. He's jumping on his bed.
  • 5 - 5:45am - giant of all giant thunderstorms. PG is terrified.
  • 5:52 am - compose this email. Kill me now.......

Love you!

lessons learned.

  • When your kid learns how to climb out of his crib, your life ends. (Or at least your free time during the evening to blog and such does.)
  • BOB - I coveted you, and then I purchased you for a ridiculously low price at an REI Garage sale (mucho thanks to The Bradens who snagged it for me). Today's jog was heaven (with sweating, and wondering why I'm even out jogging cause it sucks). You get the idea. BOB, I love you nonetheless.
  • Apparently going to "work" for my spouse includes biking at Sundance, and Boondocks. I guess I'll stay home with a toddler and clean the house. (Love you babe).
  • PG is NOT a fan of the giant praying mantis that stalks the playground. We shan't be returning anytime soon. (Incidentally, I always thought PM's were herbivores. But apparently they eat their own kind, and hummingbirds....Man I learned alot in elementary school).
  • Does everyone hate Almond Joys? They really can't be worse than Rasinettes. Honestly.
  • I heard it snowed in Colorado. I don't live there, but....SUCK.
  • D and I actually sat down and watched part of a football game. It wasn't horrible. But it was definitely a similar experience to watching a really awesomely bad movie. Lots of politically incorrect commentary and laughing. So, perhaps people should not watch any sporting event with us, ever. Plus, I'd really just rather watch the Hills. Sorry dudes.

catching up.

So we've been gone. A lot.
1st stop: Boise.
  • PG and I conquered the drive alone. We stayed at Molls and Andy's the first night, and family the rest of the time. Except for my child getting Roseola, and the drive that = hell (I guess I've been through worse) it was an awesome time. Much love to B-town.
2nd stop: san fran.
  • D had a project to do with his bro Jared that lives in San Fran. It was a last minute gig, and sis in law Michelle found a fantastic last minute fare, so PG and I were able to go. (I think she invented the internet, or at the very least helped Al Gore.....). While the boys worked, Michelle and I had each other during what would have been a single parent weekend. It was awesome.

Cousins at the Academy of Sciences.
If you look closely. One is without a shirt, and the other without pants. It was that kind of a day.

3rd stop: northern UT
  • We spent Labor Day with D's family. We ate fantastic food, and I convinced everyone to run the "Wellsville 10k fun run". Wellsville, you lie. This was anything but fun. It was a terrible, horrible, no good very bad day, kind of run. One where you just aren't feeling it. But I finished, and only wanted to die about 12 times. I can safely say that no Doughty has run that distance in at least 3 generations. Am I right? To quote my dad "Wait, you're running how long? Why? You should be swimming it....." D was awesome, and stayed with me the whole time AND D's sisters had very impressive finish times. Next Labor Day, I vote for sleeping in and pancakes.
After the race was a parade to celebrate me finishing. PG hates fake gun shots......

b-day.

Homeslice turns 2 this week. I can't believe it (or maybe I can?). I have to say the older he gets, the more I love it. Example:
  • Me: "What do you want for breakfast?"
  • PG: "Oatmeal."
VS. 1 year ago.
  • Me: "What do you want for breakfast?"
  • PG: .....staring/crying/drooling......
I guess what I'm trying to say is, I love that he is growing into his own crazy little personality. Someone I can talk to and laugh with. I'm aware that with each b-day he gets closer to becoming a snotty pre-teen, totally embarrased by his parents (although I'm not sure how, cause we're pretty awesome). So for now, I'll take that lipstick he just smeared on the wall with a grain of salt, and enjoy my cuddly hilarious little man.

For my memory's sake here are a few things PG is notorious for as of late:
  • Yelling "MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM!" etc. as soon as he wakes up.
  • Sticking his finger up his nose and waiting for us to respond.
  • Saying approx. 1 million "Hi!"s to every stranger, ever.
  • Speedwalking.
  • Cleaning the playground with wipes instead of playing on it.
  • Obsession with dogs, trucks and bikes.
  • Insane fear of motorcycle engines and the garbage truck.
  • Apparently every animal says "Moo".
  • Mispronouncing "boppie" for "paci". Not even close.
  • A few of our favorite words/phrases: "Stinky", "Oh YEAH", "Come on!", "Mommy sneak", "BOUNCE", "Bye poot", "Daddy's water" (Fresca), "Mommy's water" (Diet Coke). I could go on forever. PG love love loves to chat.
Happy b-day my love!

PS. Don't ask about the hamburger bun. I have no idea.
