lessons learned.

  • Congrats to Jeret Peterson on his silver medal in Men's Freestyle Skiing. We graduated THS together, shared the same cul-de-sac (2 doors down for 6 years), and he helped me wash my car once. Its the closest I'll come to an Olympic medal....(unless there's one for "Awesomeness" or "Drinking Diet Coke" - cause then Gold is in the bag).
  • Some days you just eat take out twice. Its just that kind of day - not because you want to, but because its really the only option......
  • A work truck backed into a covered parking space in our complex, totally destroyed it, then took off. My neighbor saw the whole thing, called the company and described the incident. The driver totally denied it! Of course there's too much evidence against him, and the company is paying to fix it. But come on.......
  • Cadbury Mini Egg season is upon us - and I'm pregnant. This does not bode well.....for the Mini Eggs. Zing!
  • 3 hours of semi decent sunshine-y weather this afternoon. I may not have to shoot myself after all.
  • I happened upon a ridiculous blog post. I was going to post about it myself, then I realized the author of said blog post is someone I semi-know. A "peer" from my college days (I'd hardly say we are or were ever friends). Curse you internet social networking! You're cramping my style. Sigh. It would have been hilarious.....

stylin'

D and I were out for dinner and a movie this weekend. During the dinner potion of the evening I spotted the following:
  • Double denim (flood mom jeans and a denim jacket to be precise) with "Winnie the Pooh" and a honey pot embroidered on the back. Topped off by brown Crocs.
The end is nigh......
(Or maybe that's me in 10 years, I haven't decided).

touche.

Long story short - I needed more Tums. I've already downed one of those giant Costco tubs (if you are pregnant, or you know someone that is, heartburn = hell). So we went to the store to get a small pack to hold me until I could get to Costco for another giant tub. I immediately grabbed the smallest generic brand pack. Mr. Aller of course goes...

D: "What are you doing?"
Me: "What?"
D: "Don't get the generic. Please." (Common disagreement among us)
Me: "Why does it matter? You're not eating them."
D: "Here - just get these." (Pulls out Tums which are twice the price).
Me: "I still don't get....."
D: (Interrupting) "OOHHHH! Tums Smoothies! Get these! Get these!"
Me: "Babe - these have the exact same ingredients. Marketing at its best. And you've fallen for it."
D: "I don't care - we're getting them, and you'll love them"
Me: yeah, as much as anyone can love Tums. So sick of Tums.....

So we get in the car, and I open my fancy pack of Tums and pop one into my mouth. Can I just say heaven? It was DE.LIC.IOUS. D tried one and started laughing. All I could surrender was a "touche". I guess now we'll have to take out a second mortgage in order to pay for my addiction to extravagant Tums Smoothies.

lessons learned.

  • I just can't watch the Olympics - too much anxiety.
  • Who invented the sport of Skeleton? It has to be the worst idea ever. Unless there's a sport where someone just throws knives at you.....
  • Dear 2 dudes in the "fast" swimming lane - you are not fast, even if you're wearing fins (I know it just gets weirder). Get out of the way. Lets put it this way - I'm 7 months along, and wearing basically a dress for a swimmy suit and am completely out of shape. I'm not a tough crowd to beat. Take a hint.
  • I hate it when the spouse is out of town. It wasn't too long ago that I lived alone, and was never terrified. What has happened to me?
  • What is the big deal about Tiger Woods? Yes, what he did was wrong, but don't things like that happen a lot. Like, every day.
  • Someone brought home 2 Caramellos from the store. I'll let you guess how long those lasted. They never even stood a chance.

valentine's montage like you've never seen.

We live in UT. Its cold outside. But you can't just plant your kid in front of the TV all winter (or can you?). So I've been involving PG in more grown up stuff. Last week - baking Valentines treats for his little buddies.
PG LUVS to cook. PS - for those of you that don't know, I'm 7 months expecting. So no judging what's under the apron, and the lack of make up on my face.

Cookie Cutting.
Then I - baked, made the frosting, frosted and sprinkled those bad boys. Toddlers are great at helping. Eh.

The finished product.

And scarfing.

I also have pics of the completed Valentines and delivering them via wagon. But my lappy imploded this morning and is currently spending the night at the Apple Store getting a hard drive makeover.

Happy Belated Valentine's!

lessons learned.

  • Sugar cookies with frosting: too much effort to be worth it. But I'll probably do it again.
  • To the child who woke up at 5 am this morning and wandered into my room - beware.
  • Went swimming for a workout. It wasn't pretty. But I did get some killer goggles. Guess that means I have to go again.
  • Sometimes I wonder if my floor with ever get mopped. Ever.
  • Catching up on Mad Men right before bed = weird dreams of living in the 60's.
  • I really despise buying maternity clothes. Or even regular clothes that can work as maternity clothes, but you can't really wear them postpartum b/c they are stretched out. Can I get by on a rotation of just 3 outfits for the next 3 months?

no shoes.

I took the kiddo to this indoor play gym. Why? Because I love him. Kids' places in general are not my favorite. For many reasons - such as this.....One of the rules was "no shoes allowed". Since I wasn't wearing socks, I told her, "Yeah, that's not happening". She said "Oh its fine if you're not planning on going on the equipment". Done. But once inside, I saw other parents with no shoes on. And a few with bare feet. Sick. You're a grown up, you have rights. Seriously.

Then I went back with some friends and their kids a few days later, and the same chick was like, "And if you could remove your shoes too, that would be great." And I was all, "Oh, I'm not going on the equipment". She replies, "We just don't want dirt tracked in, so no shoes allowed." To which I replied, "I was here less than a week ago and you told me (blah blah blah - see above convo)." And she just gave me the same schpeal about dirt. To which I replied, "Dirt is much more sanitary than what's on strangers' bare feet". And she just kept repeating herself, in her high pitched, chipper I'm in my mid-twenties and working at a kids gym and my uniform is a referee shirt voice. Finally she offered "shoe covers". Great, information that would have been useful 10 minutes ago. "Oh and they are .75 cents". I hand her my debit card....again. "Oh, well, it has to be at least a $3.00 minimum charge in order to use your card". Lady - do you know how close you are to the end of your life? Luckily I spared her b/c I had some change. And luckily I have great friends, because they all just laughed and laughed at the whole exchange.

PS - my kid has no fear. We're screwed.
